You may be fit, but are you healthy ?

IN OCTOBER 2012  I  attended a Seminar in London on Sports Nutrition. Here is a summary of the advice I have to offer based on the latest research:

New research indicates that strategies such as timing when you eat, what you eat, and how much you eat, combined with resistance exercise is the new healthy way to build muscle and gain stamina.

Exercise is the spark, and nutrition is fuel for your metabolism. You can exercise until you are blue in the face, but until you master what you eat, you will never reach your true fitness potential, and can even cause yourself harm. Many trainers and most athletes base their nutritional requirements on what they need for performance alone. However, unless you fuel your body for repair as well, you won't be able to perform. Injury is the No 1 reason athletes can't continue to train or compete.

80% of the results of your exercise program will be related to the foods you eat or don't eat and only 20% due to the exercise itself. This is not to diminish the value or importance of exercise but to merely provide a proper frame.


Certain supplements can also have an effect on building muscle mass Whey protein is just one. If you choose to use whey, it is vital to avoid whey isolate in favour of whey concentrate.
